The MCITP: Database Administrator credential validates the technician's ability to serve as an administrator over an enterprise-level database system. The MCITP: Database Administrator 2008 provides this validation for database admins using SQL Server 2008. In general, Microsoft expects MCITP: Database Administrator candidates have three years of experience working with SQL Server, in specific, and administering databases, in general. This includes designing, deploying, optimizing, maintaining and supporting a database service's entire life cycle. Specifically, a Database Administrator needs to have experience defining highly-available solutions, automating and maintaining administrative tasks, defining security solutions, and monitoring and troubleshooting a database server.
Reported salaries for technicians with their MCITP: Database Administrator certification vary by job role, relative experience, additional certifications and location. According to PayScale.com, drawing from a pool of over 3,000 respondents, technicians with an MCITP: Database Administrator can earn between $69,000 annually with the job title of Database Administrator to over $98,000 with a job title of Senior Database Administrator. Other surveyors, like Certification Magazine and Redmond Magazine, include responses from Database Administrators with additional certifications and greater experience. These numbers tend to be higher and may best be used to illustrate the future potential for someone with their MCITP: Database Administrator certification. In 2008, Redmond Magazine reported an average salary of $92,752. And the 2009 Certification Magazine Salary Survey reported an average salary of $82,340 for the MCITP-level certifications, in general.

70-450, Pro: Designing, Optimizing and Maintaining a Database Administrative Solution Using Microsoft SQL Server 2008
Additionally, candidates currently possessing their MCITP: Database Administrator on SQL Server 2005 may upgrade their skillset to SQL Server 2008 by taking 70-453, Transitioning your MCITP SQL Server 2005 to MCITP SQL Server 2008.
