SYNOPSIS
The Linux Professional Institute’s LPIC2 - Intermediate
Level Administration is a mid level certification for IT professionals who want
to show an intermediate level of “vendor independent and distribution neutral”
knowledge of Linux.
The LPIC2 certification
emerged in mid 2001. The specific prerequisite for the LPIC2 is the completion
of LPIC Level 1 (LPIC1). As well, candidates should be able to perform these
tasks: administer a small to medium-sized site; plan,
implement, maintain, keep consistent, secure, and troubleshoot a small mixed
(MS, Linux) network, including a LAN server (samba), Internet Gateway
(firewall, proxy, mail, news), and Internet Server (webserver, FTP server);
supervise assistants; and advise management on automation and purchases.
Job roles of those pursuing this certification
typically include: system administrators and network administrators.
In terms of recertification, this is what the LPI
says: “We made the decision then that we would not expire the certifications.
We do recommend that our alumni consider voluntarily recertifying every few
years as technology changes but we do not require it.”
To achieve the LPIC2, a candidate
must pass two exams.
