Slightly harder than expected
bretbowman on Tuesday, December 13, 2005
I took this exam this week and it was a bit harder than I had expected. I wouldn't say it was difficult, but I had a lot of GPO and Sec. template questions. Used all the time (but I routinely review my answers with left over time). I used Cramsession and Sybex books and software to prepare. I usually takes an assessment test first and only study the subjects that I'm weak on. Use a practice test a week or two before the exam to find what still may be my weakest subjects and drill on those the last week or two. This has brought me success and is the approach that I recommend, especially if you've been working in the field for 10+ years. Remember, there IS book content that you don't see often in real life. This can kill you on the exam, if you don't find those weaknesses and drill on them.
Straightforward

A fair test. I rated it average, but it was actually hard for me. I passed with a 755, but the only study I did was to read an ExamCram book. If you don't have experience study alot, but know that this test is a fair assessment of knowledge. No left field questions. Everything related to the stated subject matter, and for once I got no tricky questions from Microsoft.
Not as hard as I expected

When I went in to take this test, I expected it to be quite difficult. Boy, was I in for a suprise. I sped through the test in my normal fashion, which worried me greatly. I was quite shocked when I found out I got a 913. However, I will say that you need to know Group Policy very well.
Passed 790

Passed today, know GPOs inside and out. This test takes forever to finish, each question requires reading several paragraphs of reading. Took me 90 minutes to complete.

Got it passed at 700. phew!
The questions are as tricky, please pay attention to answers as two choices may only have one word different. A lot of the questions are playing the same word game. Read the answers carefully. It may be computer account and user account, domain or domain controller.
You need to know the correct phase.

I passed this today with 778/1000. The exam seemed pretty heavy on group policy, AD, VPN, IPSec. Almost nothing on SUS. One question on RIS. Several on CA's. I did see some XP. I spent a week preparing and took it on the heels of 70-220. I'll take Security+ on Friday to complete my MCSE: Security.
Easier if you know XP

Passed first time, but would have been easier if I knew all about XP security and wireless. Quite a few questions relating to these topics. Also helps if your book hasn't spent its entire life at the bottom of your desk draw and you don't go out playing pool the night before until the early hours.
Take it after your MCSE

You need to know Windows 2000 pretty well especially how Group Policy in the contact of Active Directory is used for securing your Windows 2000 domain. Recommend that you read at least two book on the subjects before attempting the exam. For me, the following books are really a excellent reference:
1) MCSA/MCSE Implementing and Administering Windows 2000 Security by Will Schmied Publisher: Syngress
2) ExamCram 2 Implementing and Administering Security in a Windows 2000 Network by Roberta Bragg Publsher: Que
All the best to those aspiring to be MCSA/MCSE: Security
