Slightly harder than 215
DarkHumour on Wednesday, March 19, 2008
I originally sat for this exam on a Saturday and the testing software bombed for both this one and a test I had slated in the morning (218). I rescheduled both to take on the same day. I used the extra time to focus more on the 217.
This one was moderately challenging. There were some tricky questions and sometimes you can work out stuff simply by using logic and eliminating some of the stupid answer choices.
Lots of stuff on Ous, Group policies, DNS issues.
I used Learnkey, Exam Cram (original) and the sometimes useless Skillsoft. My last minute cramming today was a bit thwarted by their software locking up (again). I had a demo of the Transcender practice test and it was a lot harder and wordier than the actual exam.
I reviewed a lot of questions in the actual exam after chugging through it and changed a few. I was kind of 50/50 on some. I had about 25 minutes left when I was done. I don't know if that made my score better or worse as I got a 760 out of it.
If you don't know GPOs ...

Forget doing that now...
GPOs 30% - DNS 25% - SITES concepts 20% - others (25%).
Not the walk in the park...

...I was expecting, still a dam site easier than 216 & 218 though. Going through the exam the questions seemed very easy, and was very supprised when I only scored 740. Still a pass is a pass, & not bad as it only took me about 45 minutes.
Easy exam...Lots of time

Not many questions.....lots of extra time.....very easy....that was nice for a change.

I'm really angry with myself at the moment. I used CramMaster to prep for this exam and I failed. BAD at that. 550. The exam was WAAAY different than what was presented to me in CramMaster. I'm going to checkout some other study resources, and take this %^&* test again.
Easier than what I expected

I was there for 30 mins, and got 960. Mine was heavily based on GPO's (security and also deployment of applications).
More difficult than I expected
bretbowman on Sunday, October 30, 2005
70-217 was a bit harder than I had expected. I saw a lot of DNS and GPO questions. I was surprized to find that there were quite a few short questions on my exam. I usually mark and skip (to come back to later) the questions that I call "time killers" that involved a lot of reading. I figure I'll nail all the short questions and with the time I have left, work on the longer more involved questions. In this way, if I run out of time, I know that at least I completed all the short questions that do not consume a lot of time. I suggest working through several practice tests before taking this exam. Any practice exam that explains WHY right answers are RIGHT and WHY wrong answers are WRONG will help you. I ended up being weak on subjects that I thought I was strong on, so just make sure that you're well rounded - don't stop studying a particular lesson because you "think" you know it. I always take the time to commend on questions I think are trick questions or that ar
Easy compared to 70-216
taylor_bown on Friday, July 08, 2005
This isn't that hard of a test, especially if you have passed 215 and 216 recently. 2 of the subjects are DNS and RIS which were covered in the previous tests, so you already should know about 40% of the test objectives. I studied for 2 weeks after taking 216 and got an 880. Used Que study guide and examcram.
Pretty Easy - 880 pass in <1hr
sprostafari on Tuesday, December 21, 2004
This is the simplest of the core exams I have sat. Plenty of DNS, in fact loads of DNS, as well as a spattering of GPO, especially software installation and RIS. Ensure you know how to configure sites and DNS for optimal replication and name resolution and you're home and dry. Basically if you sit this after 70-216 you'll think it's a walk in park. There was only 43 questions on my exam and I finished within 50 minutes
Surprised

Passed. Was surprised at the amount of DNS questions as I had expected them all in 70-216. Didn't get many on Group Policy and those I did get were straightforward. Make sure you know the differences between Primary/Secondary, Master/Slave/Caching DNS servers and how they can be used. Revise the concepts of splitting intranet/internet DNS servers. Understand universal V global & security V distribution groups and how they are used. Found the Sybex 70-217 book quote useful for this exam.
