SYNOPSIS • MCDST vs
The 70-271: Supporting Users and Troubleshooting a Microsoft Windows XP Operating System exam covers topics such as file encryption, offline folders, NTFS, permissions, user accounts, and TCP/IP. These are just a few components found in a Windows XP environment. It covers questions on configuring, managing, and troubleshooting Windows XP.

The MCDST exams will not include labs or a practicum, but exams may include various innovative testing technologies to present a more realistic visual representation of the products and skills on which you are being tested so that your exam experience more consistently reflects the types of tasks you might perform on the job.

Beginning with the release of the Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003–related exams, Microsoft requires a minimum passing score of 700 on all exams. The maximum score on the exams will vary depending on the complexity of the skills being measured. There are 50 questions and the exam lasts 90 minutes.

The domains covered by this exam include:
  • Installing a Windows Desktop Operating System
  • Managing and Troubleshooting Access to Resources
  • Configuring and Troubleshooting Hardware Devices and Drivers
  • Configuring and Troubleshooting Desktop and User Environments
  • Troubleshooting Network Protocols and Services

The MCDST tests are among the easiest you will see that Microsoft has released. Still, if you don't have any help desk experience, you'll need to hit the books for a couple months.

Questions were ambiguous. Saw only a handful of questions from the practice exams so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the 866. Had quite a bit on System Restore.

My only study for this exam was going through the MS e-learning clinic and taking the prep test on measureup. With enough experience with WinXP, this exam is an easy one compared with other exams.

Is hard to take for a first exam due to the detail of knowledge needed but suppose Microsoft Exams aren't supposed to be easy. Tricky wording and the need to prioritise the 4 right answers is annoying.

Untitled Document > Persistent Group Chat: An Approach for More Profitable Team Communications : Unlike email, instant messages (IMs) do not allow group communication; nor do they persist -- you can't hold on to them for as long as you wish. Persistent group chat, however, allows businesses to organize persistent dialogue around business- critical topics, and keep them for easy retrieval later.
