SYNOPSIS MCDBAvs MCSA 2003vs MCSE 2003vs
Microsoft’s exam 70-291, Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure, is a core networking system requirement for the MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) on Microsoft Windows Server 2003. It is designed for IT professionals who work in a medium to large scale business environment and have at least 12 months of experience as a system administrator. The official domains of this exam are:
Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining IP Addressing
Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining Name Resolution
Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining Network Security
Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining Routing and Remote Access
Maintaining a Network Infrastructure
Within these domains, Microsoft might ask realistic and complex simulation questions involving the administration of Microsoft windows and its use in a Medium to Large Scale environment. However, there is no set exact format, as the exam tends to change with time. The exam contains multiple choice, drag and drop, multiple answer, and simulation based questions with a total somewhere between 45 and 70. In order to pass the exam, you must achieve a 700 out of 1000.

Well after 1 month of preparation and practice tests and review study guides from preplogic and cramsession with microsoft self-paced training kit pass the test with a 778.

Next test 70-293 on my way to MCSE here I'll come!!!
exam 70-291
msandoval on Friday, April 17, 2009
Took the test a almost pass it score 654, miss it by 3 Q's. Like others said mostly on DNS, Security RRAS some SUS and DHCP. 1 sim on configuring MX records setting priorities. But rescheduled it in 10 days. I will knock it next time also sign up for microsoft 2nd chance shot. But hopefully won't need it.
More than DNS..

I just barely passed with a 763. I read about how it was very DNS intensive and loaded up on DNS material. I found my test was not the case but, it had a decent amount of everything covered. Granted I only studied a month, I used Sybex and Microsoft book's and PrepLogic practice tests. Know DNS but, put an equal amount into the other main topics.
EGad!!

Probably the hardest exam I've taken thus far. 70-290 was a breeze even with its 4 sims. 48 items, 1 sim (DNS-related). Mostly DNS. Used MeasureUp (for the sims) and TestKing.
Not so easy... not so hard...
fernando_w2k on Tuesday, November 18, 2008
I passed yesterday with 768.
I had a lot of questions about DNS, DHCP and Ipsec, and one single simulator.
I used Microsoft Trainning kit and Measureup's sims....
MCSA @ Last! 3rd Round!

Hey all, managed to get exam today! Passed with 889. So, Happy. MCSA 2003! Lots of DNS, RRAS. Plenty of Drag and Drops, and only one Sim. Used, Microsoft official media, CBT Nuggets video, notes from various google searches, and plenty of hands on experience, I advise you install Server 2003 on a VM setup so you can learn hands-on - WAHOO!
2nd time lucky!!!

Hardest exam by far on the MCSA. got 780 second time. but had to put a lot of study in compared to the rest. Loads of DNS questions, when to use cond forward + a couple of sims.
Passed on one attempt

Only 1 simulation, but it wasn't bad. Some of the questions were tough, but not much worse than 70-290. I studied off and on for several months just to get a 763 though, so still not that easy. I used Preplogic and Testking practice exams mostly. You don't need to read whole books cover to cover. The practice questions tell you what they want you to know.
You will need to work

This one does need work, you need to make sure you know about RRAS, security, network maintenance as well as lots of DNS and DHCP. Read as much background as you can use the Microsoft KB\Technet it will pay off.
