SYNOPSIS • Security+ vs
CompTIA’s Security+ exam SY0-101 is the single exam required to achieve the Security+ certification. The Security+ examination is considered to be the foremost foundational exam on computer security and is widely recognized in the IT industry, so much so that the exam can be used as an alternative on the Microsoft MCSE 2003 and MCSA 2003 certification paths.

The official domains of the exam are:
  • General Security Concepts
  • Communication Security
  • Infrastructure Security
  • Basics of Cryptography
  • Operational/Organizational Security
Within these domains, CompTIA will ask multiple choice and multiple answer questions involving security technologies, standards and specifications in order to test your understanding of security in general. Additionally, CompTIA will also ask questions involving social engineering, attacks and general security practices within a small business environment.

The passing score of this exam is 764 on a scale of 100 to 900. This exam is in conventional format, consisting of 100 identification and situational multiple choice questions and has a duration of 90 minutes.

Security+ Exam Difficulty RatingSecurity+Exam Difficulty RatingSecurity+ Exam Difficulty RatingSecurity+ Exam Difficulty Rating  Not that badpaulwells3 on Tuesday, June 09, 2009
No experience in the field, got done with the course at school. Studied for 4 days and passed with a 770. Not that good of a score but passing is passing. I only had 1 question about ports and i memorized them extensively. Most of my questions consisted of general security policy and the correct steps. Obviously know the differences between all known threats(worms, virus, trojan, buffer overflow,spoofing...etc.). Didnt think it was all that bad.

Just passed this bitch today with a 780. Would have liked to have gotten a little higher but given this was my first try, I have no security work experience, and the "minimum" passing score is an 85 percent anyway, passing is really all that matters. Know the concepts behind Organizational Security! Almost every question on this exam is an abstract, what-would-you-do story question. Memorizing port numbers and algorithms will get you about 20 questions out of the 85 or so you need. The rest well, like I said you better have good instincts and know your shtick. Whoever before that said they were glad this one was over, I second that. Whew! Thrilled to add this one to the wall though.

Harder than I thought it would be compared to other Comptia tests. The wording was deceptive and the Sybex book did not help. I studied harder the second time though and got an 845 without much trouble.

I just took the exam for the second time. I failed it again. I used the Exam Force materials (Comptia approved study material) and several text books. I am not saying the materials did not help. I have been in IT since 1997. I manage the LAN WAN for a medium sized school district. I probably will NOT attempt this exam again. I normally don't attempt cert exams after failing twice.

Exam was fair... Wording of some of the questions was a bit of a challange but pretty straight forward. Pay attention on access controls and policies.

This exam is very heavy in policies and procedures, as well as vocabulary. You don't need experience to pass this exam. You just need to learn a lot of vocabulary, and some very simple concepts.
Security+ Exam Difficulty RatingSecurity+Exam Difficulty RatingSecurity+ Exam Difficulty RatingSecurity+ Exam Difficulty Rating  Mixed feelings about this testtoddbert on Monday, May 19, 2008
It was harder than it needed to be, not because of the subject matter but because of the poorly written questions. I had several questions that contained misspelled words and terrible grammar. It didn't really test my knowledge of security so much as my ability to interpret just what it was they were trying to ask me. I have only taken a few exams, but is this typical? Also I had one question twice. I passed with an 830, so I guess I shouldn't complain too much. I used the TestOut test prep program, I think it's very good.

If you know the material well, you will be able to pass this exam. I used ActualTest practice questions, and also the O'Reilly A+/Net+/Security+ prep book. I took the exam today, and passed with an 803 in 15 minutes.

Took the test 3/22/08 and passed with a 891. I studied for about a week, but have been reading up on CEH and CISSP for a bit longer and work in the field. Like a lot of people said, it isn't too hard, just a lot of areas they dip into. I used the Sybex book and transcenders prep tests.

This exam is difficult due to the amount of material covered and the information you need to commit to memory. I recently passed he exam with an 870 after studying for 3 weeks. One good thing about it is that the material covered is also some of the material needed to know for the CISSP, which I am now studying for. Good luck to all.

Untitled Document > Persistent Group Chat: An Approach for More Profitable Team Communications : Unlike email, instant messages (IMs) do not allow group communication; nor do they persist -- you can't hold on to them for as long as you wish. Persistent group chat, however, allows businesses to organize persistent dialogue around business-critical topics, and keep them for easy retrieval later.
