SYNOPSIS • PMP ^vs
PMI’s PMP exam is the only exam required to achieve the PMP certification. It is meant for advanced-level IT professionals who are skilled project managers with at least 4,500 hours of Project Management experienced, combined with 35 contact hours of project management education from an officially recognized PMI source. This exam is considered to be very challenging and is widely recognized as the unofficially endorsed human resource standard for Project Management certification.

The official knowledge areas of the exam are:

Project Introduction
Project Integration Management
Project Scope Management
Project Time Management
Project Cost Management
Project Quality Management
Project Human Resource Management
Project Communications Management
Project Risk Management
Project Procurement Management

Within these domains, PMI will ask questions based out of Process Domains that categorize the knowledge areas into applicable questions. The official process domains are:

Initiating Process
Planning Process
Controlling Process
Executing Process
Closing Process

This exam is delivered in tradtional paper format and the passing score is 137 out of 200. All questions on the PMP are four answer multiple choice questions and may or may not contain illustrative figures that candidates will have to draw upon in order to provide the correct answer.

Study the PMBOK!	larrydaman on Monday, March 24, 2008

I passed the PMP without any problems but I took a prep class, read the PMBOK and used RMC's prep book. Much of the language that PMI uses is different from what you may use on the job, so much study is required.

The difficulty in this test comes from the breadth of information in it. Most of the individual questions are not overly challenging. Know the PMBPOK. Take a prep class. Take all the practice exams you can and brush up on your weaknesses. Good luck!

This exam contains all kinds of "subjective" questions; puck the MOST likely; the LEAST effective etc. The PMBOK should be your companion to nail the concepts.

The PMP is a hard exam and you will not pass unless you 1. Know basic PM concepts 2. Prepare by understanding the PMI concepts of PM I studied for 2 months with special study tools and passed on the first try. If you approach this exam with a attitude that this is a cake walk, you will be attempting it more than once.

You better know your stuff! This is a hard exam. I passed on 1st try but after preparing for 2 months
