Microsoft’s exam 70-292, Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment for an MCSA Certified on Windows 2000 is the only exam required for an MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) Certified on Windows 2000 to update to an MCSA on Windows 2003. It is one of two exams required for an MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) on Windows 2000 to update to an MCSE on Windows 2003. It is designed for IT professionals who work in the typically complex computing environment of medium to large companies. The prerequisite for this exam is to be certified as an MCSA or an MCSE on Windows 2000. Moreover, candidates should have experience administering client and network operating systems in the type of environment described.

After having passed the 70-221 on Monday, barely failing the 70-219 on Tuesday, getting away from case study/design exams provided much needed relief. I found this exam so easy that I was sure I was messing up somewhere and not realizing it. I passed in one hour with 888 over 700.

Passed today on my second attempt, this time I found more questions on DNS, SUS, TS, & Group Policies. I even got a VBS question and at least 5 interactive\hotspot questions. I found taking the exam the second time around much easier as I knew what to expect. Cruised in with 925!

Used almost the whole 2 hours to complete the exam. Passed first try, found every question to be close to a page of reading or even more. Lots of DNS, SUS, GPO, Backup and TS questions, DNS was the most prevalent.
Still, it wasn't too bad. 70-240 was still the hardest for me back in 2001.

I found the questions ridiculous, confusing and too long. I got 10 questions in a row about ASR, backup and disaster recovery. No questions in regards to VBS. I wasted most of my time re-reading the 40 odd questions, as opposed to answering them. I even used the Preplogic practice exam which I found to be completely lacking in material that was covered in the exam. I am very disappointed and am not sure if I will resit this exam.

70-292 is the hardest exam I've ever sat (and that includes "The Beast") - the breadth of the material is quite wide & I couldn't believe the level of detail that you're apparently expected to know for the exam. Syngress course was useful for the basics, but a lot of this exam is very, very obscure & I'd say that the official MCSE training kit is a must (including all the obscure command line switches). Fail a subject, fail the exam & with only 40 questions & huge bias towards some subject areas you don't have to slip up very much in any particular area to fail the whole exam as a result. Know your material, and know it in (really obscure) detail.

Hard, but not too hard. I took this exam along with 70-296 yesterday (17 Sep). I passed both on first try (70-292 with score 700 and 70-292 with score 800). Lots of questions about DNS, SUS, Disaster Recovery, Certificates. Both exams more difficult that those from Windows 2000 series. You have to be very careful reading questions (what exactly are you asked for).
Fortunatelly for me, I'm MCSE again :)

Did this exam today. Microsoft had forced my hand by annoucing the retirement of them next year : /... Had read through previous reviews and was expecting a monster!
Anyway it was pretty average I thought. I had 40 questions on DNS, SUS , TS, Disaster Recovery, VSS, Users & Groups, Security (IPsec/SW restrictions).
