SYNOPSIS • NetWare 5 CNE vs

Novell’s exam 050-660 (course 730), “Network Management Using ManageWise 2.7” is one of the electives for the Certified Novell Engineer (CNE) 5 certification. This exam is designed for candidates who are quite experienced with the ManageWise product. There is no specific prerequisite for this exam.

This exam is moderately difficult and is priced at $125, $55.50, or $27.50 depending on the region where you take the exam.  Most North American and European and some Asia Pacific countries fall under the highest price tier. The exam may be taken from Pearson Vue or Thomson Prometric.

The passing score is 662. This exam is a form test (traditional), consisting of 64 questions, and has a duration of 90 minutes.

  • Describe the role of network management
  • Explain the management tasks supported by ManageWise
  • List the ManageWise components
  • Install ManageWise on a NetWare server and a Windows workstation
  • View the ManageWise product manuals
  • Describe the post-installation procedure for ManageWise
  • Describe the modifications made to AUTOEXEC.NCF, MW_AUTO.NCF, MW_LOGIN.DAT, container Login Script, and System Login Script during ManageWise installation
  • Explain the ManageWise components and files that are responsible for the network discovery process
  • Explain the function of the LANalyzer Console
  • Explain the function of the NetExplorer Console
  • Prepare a detailed internetwork map through the use of the default Internetwork and Segment Maps
  • List all the discovered IP and IPX network addressess using ManageWise View All Tables
  • View inventory information for a managed computer using Desktop Manager
  • Use SyncComplete to create a unified database, post queries, and generate reports
  • Verify that the server is accepting login attempts
  • Verify that the server is operating by checking for server errors and making sure that the server has not abended
  • Use ManageWise Console to verify network communictaions
  • Create a critical system alarm group using a locational map
  • Create a connectivity test group
  • Create and use an SNMP profile to monitor a NetWare server
  • Describe the use of alarms and thrsholds in network monitoring
  • Track load trends in trend graphs
  • Use TrandComplete to generate NetWare server and Ethernet network trend reports
  • Use the Print Server Detail window and Queue Monitor to verify that print servers and queues are receiving and processing print jobs
  • Describe the use of print queue alarms in monitoring network printing activity
  • Use the Print Capture Info window and Control Station to verify a workstation's printing configuration
  • Describe the reasons to integrate third-party print servers on a Netware network
  • Describe the use of Desktop Manager's Control Station and Chat features to communicate with a managed workstation
  • Describe computer viruses, common sources of infection, potential hazards, and detection techniques
  • Describe the components, architecture and features of Network Associates NetShield and McAfee VirusScan
  • Install and configure NetShield and McAfee VirusScan
  • Select the appropriate scanner for network servers and standalone workstations
  • Describe possible causes of poor performance of network servers, LAN segments, and workstations
  • Evaluate server performance by creating and printing server trend graphs and comparing those graphs to baseline data
  • Evaluate server performance by applying an SNMP MIB profile to a server and comparing the data with baseline data
  • Evaluate segment work load by creating network segment trend graphs and comparing the results with baseline data
  • Use Conversations Windows to verify communication and evaluate conversations between a workstation and a server
  • Capture packets and use display filtering to solve read or write performance problems between a workstation and a server
  • Use TrendComplete to analyze NetWare server Health reports
  • Describe issues related to system upgrade planning
  • Use Desktop Manager's Query tool to determine if stations can run a new application
  • Use the top Stations table to identify the top traffic-generating stations on a network segment
