SYNOPSIS A+vs
CompTIA’s A+ 220-602 "IT Technician" Exam is one of two exams required to achieve the A+ 2006 certification as an IT Techician. The exam is meant for entry-level computer professionals, such as desktop support specialists, remote administrators, and depot assemblers. This exam and has the prerequisite of A+ Exam 220-601 "Essentials" and is designed for a individuals with at least 500 hours in computer technology support. Users that attain the A+ 2006 - IT Technician Concentration are usually referred to as a helpdesk technician, computer support professional, or IT technician.
The official domains of the exam are:
Personal Computer Components
Laptop and Portable Devices
Operating Systems
Printers and Scanners
Networks
Security
Safety and Environmental Issues
Communication and Professionalism
Unlike the previous iteration of this exam, it will no longer involve questions on legacy operating systems, such as Windows 3.1 and Windows 95. Additionally, the A+ 220-602 exam will involve questions that deal with soft skills and office communication, as well as some basic questions on electricity and safety procedures. Candidates that are familiar with computer technology, but unfamiliar with service communication would do well to study up on the proper method of assisting customers, coworkers, and superiors. However, the exam will still ask 80 questions in traditional multiple choice and multiple answer format. The passing score for this exam is a 700 or better on a scale of 900.
If you can pass the Essentials test than you can pass this easily.
Mostly common sense
crevans17 on Thursday, September 27, 2007
Anybody not even in the IT field could get close to half the questions right. The professionalism questions are common sense as well as the safety and environmental issues. The security is a bit tougher, but not too much on it anyway. My advise, take the essentials (harder) and just speed read through the IT technician portion and study guides and practice questions and then take it. IF you have been a technician for at least 6 months, it will be no problem passing this.
a bit hard

Easy for someone with exp.

This test was very easy I have over the years experience with PC hardware and Desktop support experience.scored 780 on the test with just 4 days of study time. But, for someone with really one PC hardware on Desktop support experience I would take your time and use different sources to study from like Sybex A+ certification or the CBT Nuggets A+ certification cd-rom.Just take your time on the test because you have plenty of time to take it and review over questions that you are unsure of and you should have no problems.
Not that bad

The hardest part was trying to find some study material that wasn't just a rearranged edition of an older book. I used Sybex's Fast Pass; studied it for half a week and passed with an 825. There was more questions about security than I expected and I wish I had memorized the various paths to most windows administration tools.
