SYNOPSIS A+vs
CompTIA’s A+ 220-601 Essentials Exam is one of two exams required to achieve the A+ 2006 certification as an IT, Remote Support, or Depot Technician. The exam is meant for entry-level computer professionals, such as desktop support specialists, remote administrators, and depot assemblers. This exam has no prerequisites and is designed for individuals with at least 500 hours in computer technology support. Users that attain the A+ 2006 Certification are usually referred to as a helpdesk technician, computer support professional, or IT technician. The official domains of the exam are:
Personal Computer Components
Laptop and Portable Devices
Operating Systems
Printers and Scanners
Networks
Security
Safety and Environmental Issues
Communication and Professionalism
Unlike the previous iteration of this exam, it will no longer involve questions on legacy operating systems, such as Windows 3.1 and Windows 95. Additionally, the A+ 220-601 exam will involve questions that deal with soft skills and office communication. Candidates that are familiar with computer technology but unfamiliar with service communication, would do well to study up on the proper method of assisting customers, coworkers and superiors. However, the exam will still ask 100 questions in traditional multiple choice and multiple answer format. The passing score for this exam is a 675 or better on a scale of 900.

Please do not look at some of these comments, and asume this is a easy test. If your only an end user you will need to study your head off. Trust me the only trained chimp that can pass this test, is one from planet of apes.
Needs alot of experience

there are quite a few things on the actual exam that i notuced people don't cover. you truly have to know something about everything.
Simple: Study, and pass.

I just graduated college with a Comp Tech. degree that mostly involved programming and EET. I then decided I'd rather do IT, so I have begun to build my certification resume to go with the degree. Simply put I have zero years of "work" experience in the IT field, I got a used ExamCram2 A+ book, studied for about 4-5 weeks an hour or two a night, but skimmed entire chapters (didn't even read about 4 of them), showed up today, and passed with a 725.
Now you might say 725 BFD, but I'm saying I never took an IT class in my life in college, yet to land an IT job, and managed to pass on my own with an old used book in 4 weeks time. I didn't know jack about laptop or printer components yesterday, and I passed today.
I guess the moral of the story is, if you are a good test taker in general, have good instinctive knowledge of computers, and are willing to put in a some effort, you'll pass, even with no work experience at all like me.
Not Hard!

With some practice questions and hands on experience this test is not hard at all.
Basic

Mostly basic. Read study guide, some practice questions, and some experience in the field will amount to a pass.
Not bad with a little help.

I used the Cramsession guide along with XAMWARE's flash cards.
Not too bad

This test was very easy I have over three years experience with PC hardware and Desktop support experience.scored 780 on the test with just 4 days of study time. But, for someone with really no PC hardware or Desktop support experience I would take your time and use different sources to study from like Sybex A+ certification or the CBT Nuggets A+ certification cd-rom.Just take your time on the test because you have plenty of time to take it and review over questions that you are unsure of and you should have no problems.
Fun

This was about an average difficulty exam, not pure easy but not too difficult. Thanks to Cramsession for the pdf's though I thought they helped really well. No personal job experience with computers, mind I'm only 16, and walked away with a 770 in 25 minutes for 100 question 90 minute test.
