EXAMS: STUDY TIPS

Relates to: MCSE 2000 | MCSA 2000 | MCDBA
To pass this exam, you will need to have extensive experience installing, configuring
and maintaining Windows 2000 Professional. Microsoft expects that you will have at least a
year's experience with the product before attempting to write and has designed the exam
accordingly.
Good books to have are:
- Mastering Windows 2000 Server 2nd Edition by Mark Minasi
- Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit, MS Press
- Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit, MS Press
Practice as much as you can on a home network. Three or more machines are needed to get
the most mileage out of your study time. Here are some things to try:
- Setup a machine running Windows NT 4 Server then upgrade it to Windows 2000 Server.
Observe what has changed. Do a clean install of Windows 2000 Server on a second machine.
Observe the difference between your two W2K Servers.
- Put a machine running Windows NT 4 Server on your practice network and try running in
mixed-mode.
- Explore DNS and DHCP exhaustively. See if you can find ways to make them crash and then
fix them.
- Play with local security as much as you can without frying your brain - if the exam
guides MS has published are any indication, this will be something you can expect to see
on the exam.
- Setup file, print and Web servers. Bash them around to see what blows up.
- Learn MMC inside and out.
