Two New Microsoft Security Developer Exams Go Live

• Relates to: MCSD .NET | MCAD .NET

On June 28, 2004, both of Microsoft's new developer Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) exams went live. These exams apply to both the latest Microsoft Certified Applications Developer (MCAD) and Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) credentials and are intended to acquaint developers with concepts, requirements, and best practices associated with designing, building, testing, and maintaining code that's as secure as possible. Not surprisingly, Microsoft views these exams and what they cover as important outgrowths from their Trustworthy Computing initiative as they try to teach their own developers, and the huge audience of those who work with Microsoft programming languages and development environments, to raise their security consciousness and to start building more secure services and applications from the ground up.

The two new exams are as follows:
  • Exam 70-330: Implementing Security for Applications with Microsoft Visual Basic .NET
  • Exam 70-340: Implementing Security for Applications with Microsoft Visual C# .NET
Although both focus on different programming languages, both do so in the context of the .NET Framework and related APIs, as well as within the Visual Studio .NET development environment. Both exams require at least 3 years of development experience with n-tier applications, and at least 1 year spent working with Visual Studio .NET 2003, including ASP.NET and ADO.NET. Candidates should also have substantial Web- and Windows-based application development experience, which Microsoft defines as having been through the complete development cycle (design, implementation, testing, integration, deployment, and maintenance/update).

Either exam can be applied as an elective for MCAD or MCSD certification. Recent information is that a fair number of people are studying and signing up for these exams, but that Visual Basic .NET has a slight edge over C# .NET.

Untitled Document > Persistent Group Chat: An Approach for More Profitable Team Communications : Unlike email, instant messages (IMs) do not allow group communication; nor do they persist -- you can't hold on to them for as long as you wish. Persistent group chat, however, allows businesses to organize persistent dialogue around business-critical topics, and keep them for easy retrieval later.
