Perform a Top Down Rebuild of a GroupWise System

Who should do this: A Network/GroupWise Administrator with full
file system rights to all domains, post offices and gateways
and also with all required NDS rights, which will vary
depending on the design of your GroupWise system

When: After a complete backup of the GroupWise system is made,
a top down rebuild of GroupWise should be done as regular
maintenance. This may also be required if you have an abend
that may have corrupted the system… or if things are generally
just messed up and you seem to run into one problem after
another.

What’s needed: In order to perform the top down rebuild you’ll
need NWAdmin, the stand-alone version of GWCheck, and all
GroupWise agents and gateways must be shut down

How:
1. Rename all WPDOMAIN.DB files in any and all domain
directories

2. Rebuild all Domains, starting with the primary, by
following these steps in each

a. Highlight the domain object in NDS view
b. Select Tools/GroupWise Utilities/System Maintenance
c. Select “Rebuild Database”
d. Click RUN

3. Rename any and all WPHOST.DB files in all post office
directories. Remember, the agents have all been shut down, and
no users are accessing these files now.

4. Rebuild all Post Offices, following these steps for each:

a. Highlight the post office object in the NDS view
b. Select Tools/GroupWise Utilities/System Maintenance
c. Select “Rebuild Database”
d. Click RUN

Once this completes, you may reload the agents and allow people
access to their mailboxes.

5. Now, using either NWAdmin or Stand alone GWCheck,
perform structural rebuilds of the post offices

a. Using NWAdmin
i. Select the post office in NDS view
ii. Select Tools/GroupWise Utilities/Mailbox/Library
Maintenance
iii. Select Structural Rebuild from the pull down
iv. Click RUN

b. Using GWCheck

i. Select the path to the post office and type in
the name of that same post office
ii. Select User/Resource and type the word “All” in
the box below
iii. Select Structural Rebuild from the pull down
iv. Click RUN
v. When that completes (NOTE: This step will be a
slow one), go back to the pull down and select
Analyze and Fix
vi. Deselect Structure, select Contents and Fix Problems
vii. Click RUN

Untitled Document > Persistent Group Chat: An Approach for More Profitable Team Communications: Unlike email, instant messages (IMs) do not allow group communication; nor do they persist -- you can't hold on to them for as long as you wish. Persistent group chat, however, allows businesses to organize persistent dialogue around business-critical topics, and keep them for easy retrieval later.
