Solaris 8 SCSA II - Study Tips

• Relates to: Solaris 8 SCSA

It is a good idea to take the Solaris™ SCSA Part II exam right after the part I test, because the material builds on the concepts laid out earlier and will make much more sense from an application standpoint. This exam, which keeps material from the Solaris™ 7 days, introduces some new advanced features that will make your environment more administrator-friendly.

The main topics of this exam are the features of the operating system. Think of it as product marketing material on steroids. The exam goes feature by feature and tests the knowledge of implementing each one in complex environments. The focus on networking shows that it is a serious topic that should be coupled with the operating system concepts. In fact, some of the material that appears on Solaris™ 8 Part II used to be covered on the Sun Networking test (although, don’t worry that one has been updated for Solaris™ 8 as well).

Note: Administrators who already have the Solaris™ 7 SCNA title will be able to upgrade via a Solaris™ 8 upgrade exam, that is offered for a six month period after these exams go live.

Getting a jump on Solaris™ 8 testing is easy. There are tons of great material out there for the existing exams that hasn’t changed much for the new tests. The best resource for studying for the exam now is the Solaris™ 7 Administrator Exam Cram Guide by Darrell Ambro from Corolis (ISBN: 1576105474). This book came out in early 2000 and covers both parts of the version 7 exams! So it is well worth the money spent. Bill Calkins now has an updated Solaris™ 7 certification guide called Solaris™ 7 Administrator Certification Training Guide (ISBN: 1578702496), that includes great CDROM practice questions. Official Solaris™ training from Sun is a good but expensive way to become certified.

Studying material for the Solaris™ 7 tests, updating your knowledge to cover the new topics in Solaris™ 8, and getting plenty of hands on experience will spell success!

Untitled Document > Persistent Group Chat: An Approach for More Profitable Team Communications : Unlike email, instant messages (IMs) do not allow group communication; nor do they persist -- you can't hold on to them for as long as you wish. Persistent group chat, however, allows businesses to organize persistent dialogue around business-critical topics, and keep them for easy retrieval later.
