According to recent reports, exam 1Z0-040 Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Administrators will be live very soon. Insiders expect the 1Z0-040 Web page, which indicates that the beta period is concluded and that the exam will be "available soon," to be updated and for the exam to be available no later than the third or fourth week of August, 2004. I confirmed that this exam, which Oracle Certified Professionals (OCPs) certified on Oracle9i can use to upgrade their certifications to Oracle Database 10g, is not yet available for registration and testing at Thomson Prometric. However, it should be publicly available in weeks, if not days.
The Oracle Database 10g Administrator I exam, 1Z1-042, is available in beta from July 30th until September 4, 2004. Those who register for and take this exam within that time window can test for only $50. Passing this exam earns the Oracle
Certified Associate (OCA) DBA credential, and is also a prerequisite for the OCP DBA credential. (The other exam for the OCP—namely, 1Zx-043, the Oracle Database 10g Administrator II exam—is expected to go into beta some time later this month or in early September.) I confirmed that 1Z1-042 is indeed available for registration at Thomson Prometric, but so far no sign of 1Z1-043.
There's still no word on the Oracle Database 10g master-level certifications, though new beta upgrade exams for other Oracle versions (7x and 8x, primarily) are expected to be announced soon. The company has indicated it will elaborate further on the Master program later this fall.
Note that when Oracle exams transition from beta to public release status, the exam numbers change from 1Z1-xxx to 1Z0-xxx. You can learn more about how Oracle beta certification exams differ from public release versions of the same exams on the company's Beta Exams page. For more information about Oracle Database 10g credentials, see Oracle's Certification Paths page.
