There are three levels of LPI certification. Details of Level 1 certification are as follows:

Requirements:

To complete Level 1, candidates must complete two exams:

• The 101 exam
• The 102 exam

Exams:

101: General Linux I

This exam tests basic capabilities in these areas:

• GNU & Unix commands
• Devices, Linux File Systems, Filesystem Hierarchy Standard
• Boot, Initialization, Shutdown, Run Levels
• Documentation
• Administrative Tasks

102: General Linux II

This exam tests basic capabilities in these areas:

• Hardware & Architecture
• Linux Installation and Package Management
• Kernel
• Text Editing, Processing, Printing
• Shells, Scripting, Programming, Compiling
• X Networking Fundamentals
• Networking Services
• Security

Preparing for this exam will require a thorough knowledge of Linux installation, configuration, networking services and security. LPI 102 is currently in beta; however, it still counts towards Level 1 LPI certification.
