Use the Resource Kit! The Resource Kit contains a wealth of information
that is invaluable to you, not only in preparing for this exam, but also in the
day to day implementation and operation of Windows 2000 Server in your
organization.
Get plenty of hands-on experience! You cannot pass this exam
without putting Active Directory into use in your own network. A minimum of two
machines will be required (one server, one client), but you would be best to go
with three or more machines. If you can, set up two Domain
Controllers—it’s a little difficult to replicate without someone to
replicate to! Don’t be afraid to experiment with down level clients
either (such as Windows 98). There are some things you definitely want to be
all over:
Installing Active Directory (dcpromo)
Integrating Windows NT 4.0
with Windows 2000
Restoring System State Data
Replication between sites
Publishing and assigning software
Setting system policies using Group Policy
Read the question, answer the question. With most case study based exams,
you can easily pick out all the information you need to answer each question.
Careful reading of the scenario (and some judicious note taking) will lead to a
much easier time when it comes to answering the questions. Remember that
it’s usually easier to answer the questions correctly if you place
yourself inside the scenario and look at things from their point of
view.
Get all over Windows 2000. If you don’t understand Windows
2000, you are in a world of hurt. Don’t cheat yourself.
Use the
Active Directory editing tools. They will not only make your testing experience
a better one, they will save your butt in a pinch on the job.
