EXAMS: WHAT TO KNOW

Relates to: CCIE
This Cramsession will help you to prepare for Cisco
exam #351-001, the CCIE Written exam. The CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork
Expert) certification has historically been the most valued in the area of
networking. There are two steps to achieve this valued certification:
-
A 100 question written test, which this Cramsession
will help to prepare you for
-
And an intense lab exam, which will test the limits of
your technical knowledge
You should note that Cisco has recently updated the CCIE
Written exam. This update has been a long time coming, and the changes are
huge. While the new test does eliminate some of the older technologies that are
no longer relevant in the current environment, those that remain are now
explored to a much deeper level; and the new technologies that have been added
present their own world of challenges. No longer is it possible to memorize
network theory; you will be expected to demonstrate a comprehensive working
knowledge of the covered technologies. The Cisco website blueprint provides a
broad list of potential topics, but remember, this is the CCIE track, and
anything that can be run on a Cisco router or switch is fair game.
Many of the things that were eliminated from the lab
when it was transitioned from a two-day to a one-day format seem to have been
pushed back onto the new written exam. You are expected to have a deep and
comprehensive understanding of local area networking technologies, such Token
Ring and Ethernet; routing protocols, such as OSPF, EIGRP and BGP; routed
protocols, such as IP, and IPX; and the specifics of Cisco router and switch
operation. As evidenced by what has just been said, you should realize by now
that the biggest change is that the new exam is MUCH harder than the old one.
That said the CCIE path is still more satisfying and
financially rewarding than any other that you can undertake in the world of
networking.
This exam is different from the CCNA and CCNP track in
that you are responsible for almost anything Cisco supports. A partial list of
the topics follows, and while these are the major focus on the exam, don’t be
surprised to see several questions on technologies that are not listed here.
